For anyone wondering where some stock of the funimation titles in the AtA sale may have came from, my copy of Noragami Arigato had an old school price sticker on it for "£20.00", so I guess some remnants were returned to them from smaller brick and mortar retail stores.

Already started FMP 1. 5 episodes in today. Sure I've seen it years ago but not remembering it.
Bit weird watching with the black lines on the screen. I've got plenty of old DVDs. I can only guess my dvd player expands the picture to fill the screen because I'm sure I haven't seen this for ages.
It's not your dvd player that will do this for you, it's your television, it may work differently with blu-rays as even with 4:3 material it still has to output a hdmi-compliant signal, meaning 16:9 so the black bars will be added to the video output, unlike animorphic widescreen dvd's where the output is still actually 4:3 but is "pre-compressed" so the tv stretches it to 16:9.

Anyways, most televisions have the aspect ratio option to dynamically "fill the screen", meaning it'll stretch 4:3 material for you, although that it makes it look pretty bad imo.

I dislike zooming content as well as you'll cut off top/bottom a bit to make it fit into 16:9.

I just deal with the black bars on the odd show that has them, like this, and I think Bokurano had them as well when I watched it.

I did not intend on spending nearly so much, but I ended up caving on a bunch of early birds on the very last day with the 15% code, CCS I was still on the fence on and Kakegurui I wouldn't be pre-ordering if it wasn't for the deck of cards, damn you AL...

Lots of people complaining about MVM's sale, I actually thought it was really good, even if I have most of the titles on offer that I would want (and paid a good bit more for most of them), but I think that's actually the problem, most of us already have what we want from them (in no small part due to the DotW offers), so if the few titles we're still looking out for aren't on offer we just mentally write the whole sale off...

could be stock they took with them to conventions also but i have no idea if they individually sticker everything or just stick them in a box and have the price stuck to the back of the storage crate

I started this fairly recently and remember commenting the same to my work colleagues, hisashiburi 4:3 bars.

It's a good show though, season 1 a little thematically all over the place, but season 2 (still had 4:3 bars) and what I've seen of season 3 (back to fullscreen!) so far are very good.
I'm enjoying it so far. Hopefully it won't be one long story but broken into chunks with mini endings.

I thought i was on auto select.
I'm going to go into the blu-ray menu and experiment.
Also got Gurren Lagann DVD today so I will try it in both machines

This is what I got from the sales;

12/6 Cardcaptor Sakura (Collector's Edition) [BD] (UK)
12/6 Kakegurui: Season 1 (Collector's Edition) [BD] (UK)
12/11 Black Lagoon (Collector's Edition) [BD] (UK)
12/11 Boogiepop Phantom (Collector's Edition) [BD] (UK)
12/11 El-Hazard: The Magnificent World (Collector's Edition) [BD] (UK)
12/11 Penguindrum (Collector's Edition) [BD] (UK)

Couldn't find anything of interest in the MVM sale this time around.

Apart from that also have two big orders over at Rightstuf for 44 titles 🥴

I decided to take part in RightStuf's Christmas sale a few days ago, and decided to grab what's left of Kraken Releasing's releases of Garo, after managing to find a used copy of Season 1 Part 1 on eBay, as that was already out of print.

Consisting of:
Garo Season 1 Part 2
Garo Special: Beast of the Demon Night
Garo: Red Requiem
Garo: Kiba (also known as Kiba Gaiden)
Garo: Makai Senki Parts 1 and 2

It's a shame that Kraken Releasing won't be releasing the rest of the Garo series and instead just let them all go out of print. In fact, they're all Last Chance Items on RightStuf, as are Tokyo Living Dead Idol and The Return of Godzilla (1984), also Kraken Releasing titles, so something tells me that Section23 is phasing out Kraken Releasing altogether.

As a fan of Garo I salute you on your efforts to snap up as much as possible, it's such a sad state of affairs that for one brief shining moment we had of the most wonderful Toku shows in decades liscenced only for it to crumble and turn to dust in our hands. I know that sounds over-dramatic but it's how I feel.

I know I've mentioned this previously but just in case any fellow Garo fans didn't see it. The Japanese Blu ray of Garo Gekkitou No Tabibito (Moonbow Traveller) has english subtitles.

It's a real shame the Kraken imprint died so unceremoniously. Not even sure there was any kind of recognition of it, just seemed to dissapear in the night around 2 years ago and the titles stopped coming. Shame that also means return of godzilla is out of print, it's a decent big G flick I have some fond memories of. Really glad I picked it up a quite some time ago along with all of the Garo titles available.

Also: while I've bought a decent amount at Rightstuf in the last few months I bought only 2 things in the sales this year. Magic Knight Rayearth boxes 1&2 and the Cowboy Bebop board game (Which was a Christmas present). Reckon i spent around £200 at Rightstuf a while back though so i guess i just went nuts a little early.

My Hero! 🥰

Lol, I guess all my anime purchases I listed for October and November over in our Monthly Purchase thread on BD.com were an inspiration for you to get back into your normal groove... 😁
More or less. It's a yearly tradition to make a big splash around the end of the year, but during the course of this year I've ordered a lot less than in previous years.

I might have a found a source to order stuff to an US address in the near future, which open Sentai own sales which I think are more interesting than what Rightstuf has to offer.

Since in both Rightstuf orders, some stuff was again OOS the question is again when these packages will actually arrive.
