The second live action Death Note movie (Death Note: The Last Name) has reached number 1 in the Japanese box office on its first week of release.

The Death Note franchise is currently sweeping through Asia - having started out as a popular Shounen Jump manga series, Death Note has now spawned two big budget live action movies (funded by Warner Brothers - no doubt with an interest in remaking the story for US audiences) and currently has a popular anime series (produced by fan favourite Madhouse Studios) airing on national TV. In other words, it's currently one of the biggest franchises coming out of Japan (following on from Bleach and Naruto) and we wouldn't be surprised to see some (if not all) of the Death Note business eventually landing in the UK too.
