Review of Witchblade #1

I tend not to watch anime with a huge amount of fan service in since porn mixed with serious business makes me confused: I can never decide if I'm going to try to watch it seriously or watch it as a porno. I don't buy porn, so...

I did pick up the Battle Vixens slimpak set for £7.99. I *might* bother watching that at some point.

The whole series!?

Where!?

It was a Play misprice I spotted and posted about. It didn't last long, quickly going back up to £31.99.

Dont judge a book by its cover mate! :D

Yeah, that's a nice metaphor for people and all ... but, not only is Witchblade a DVD, it's an anime DVD and my experience with anime is that anything with pure, ridiculous fanservice stamped across the cover will almost certainly be something I won't like :[
I've seen a few episodes and the plot's pretty decent. There is sexual content, but I never really thought of it as fanservice - is there something wrong with me? The main character's a mother first and foremost which has a greater impact on the series than the nudie monsters. As long as you don't watch it blinkered with an 'OMG she's naked!' perspective I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

It's one of the better series I've caught lately imo anyway.

Though it's true about the cover. I probably won't be able to look the person on the checkout in the eye when I buy this one
Suck it up. I bought Puni Puni Poemy from HMV.

Who the hell is idiotic enough to buy anime DVD's in the flesh anyway? Unless Walsall is an exception, all anime DVD's cost near the RRP in my local non-virtual stores.

Er.. Me for one. I do buy anime online but only if it's hard to acquire or unreasonably expensive. Embarassing covers are annoying but frankly I'm not too fussed. Generally my areas prices are quite decent.

The only anime I've ever purchased in the flesh is the Cowboy Bebop film and (old) Samurai X collection. Those were the days when I didn't have a 1300+ Find-DVD watchlist.

My "idiotic" comment was uncalled for, but I still can't understand why people would pay a higher price for anime offline if they can get it cheaper online. If people have the money to waste...

I don't tend to usually but recently I got a bunch of vouchers for various reasons so buying from brick and mortar has been happening. That and I do it when I'm overseas. I have no shame though, bought everything from hentai to magic girls with a smile :)

There are also occasionally some funky deals in shops, though I'm normally too much of a hermit to check for them. My local HMV had Tenjou Tenge 1 for £5 last time I was there which wasn't too bad. Still £5 more than I suspect the TT anime is worth to me, but might be a deal for someone, somewhere

Perhaps I'm just old fashioned? There are great deals online, and I almost always buy manga off the net but sometimes I just prefer not to have the hassle of waiting four or five days for a delivery. So I guess I'm impatient. :(
Anyway, I'm going to shut up now. This thread is about Witchblade not online vs offline deals

I call this "impatience tax" too. Like sometimes I'll be so desperate for a product that waiting for it isn't worth the saving. It's rare. An excellent (if tragic) example of this is taking the day off and going to a 24h supermarket at 00:01 to buy the latest WoW expansion, so you can play it the second it's available rather than wait until 4pm for the postman ;)

R (I didn't do that personally, but a lot of WoW players did in the chat room I was in that night)
