Still celebrating the success of their recent event (attended by upwards of 400 people over three days), Irish anime convention Eirtakon have got in touch with us to say that they've already lined up a guest for their 2008 gathering; English dub actor Vic Mignogna, otherwise known as the voice of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Eirtakon will again be held at The Hub in Dublin City University during the last weekend of November 2008.

On the subject of local anime conventions, registrations for Leicester's Amecon 2008 have been flying in at a tremendous rate; to the point where (as of December 4th) 1189 people had already booked their places, meaning there was little more than 150 places left to be filled. If you're interested in attending Amecon 2008, it's literally now or never.

Just one thing it wasn't our maiden event, we've been going since 2005, Eirtakon 2008 will be our fourth convention

Not sure where I got that from, but fixed now anyway. I remember considering using the word "maiden", mainly because it makes me sound like some medieval story teller, but I never thought to question whether or not it was even relevant.

Well, I remember talking to some Eirtakon staff before the third event last November, and apparently they get lots of young attendees, so I'm sure you'd feel perfectly at home there! :D

I attended the 2005 Eirtakon and I really enjoyed it.
Good excuse to pop over to Dublin for a visit. :)

......it doesn't seem that long ago!

Well, I'd love to be able to go to Tomo Dachi in Belfast, but it's just way too far away :[ I'm all the way down in Tipperary, so getting to Belfast would mean traversing more than half of this island :p
