In an interesting move, Viz Media (US) have issued cease and desist notices to a number of fansub groups and file sharing communities involved in the production and distribution of Death Note fansubs - at the time of these notices, there were only two episodes left of Death Note to air in Japan, ultimately cutting off illegal production of the popular horror series just as it was reaching it's climax.

The lastest date is 22nd June for all torrents and fansubbing to come to a halt, 4 days before the final episode. You know someone is going to sub and leak out the last episode anyway.

More imporatnly, you know that Viz are STILL not going to allow us to actualy buy the thing ligititmately to download, because, that would totaly be a good idea and curb down on priacy and stuff.

I meen for godsake, is it THAT hard to get right, people?

It could mean that a DVD release is just over the horizon...here's hoping anyway.

The fact that Warner Bros (iirc) have a cut in the franchise with the live action movies could have complicated things and forced Viz's hand in clamping down. It is a very popular show, after all.
