Because anyone who isn't an anime fan who is aware about anime will think "Typical animu fan" and is seen as some sort of stereotype.

Right...
Pfft fine then, DON'T believe me. ;/

EDIT: **** it, I'm going to be honest, cosplay is mainly for people with balls/losers. There, I said it.

You really are an idiot. You are really too concerned with the views of a small minded few and have no really ways of expression.

Naw, not really, how am I an idiot for seeing things as they are, it's pretty much TRUE, the small minded few are probably smarter than half the losers who actually cosplay. The way I express myself is that I bring those who cosplay and are ****** at it down so they can either do it BETTER next time or never again.

A majority of UK cosplayers don't look good.

The Japanese version of a good looking man is long hair, feminine looks and perfect skin white skin.
Western men,in general there exactly the opposite.
Women are long straight hair medium tit size and thin.
western women in general aren't.
This is why dressing up as yuna when your 6 st over weight is not a good idea, cosplaying as vegeta and your 8st over weight it doesn't look good.
When your black male and 10 st over weight cosplaying as sailor moon...you see were i'm going?it's not a good idea.
Now if at these audition a bunch of over weight people turn up it will be a joke.
But take mcicy cosplay as bass from doa he's a big guy and lets be honest McIcy ain't a stick(no offence :p)so he looked good.

WTF are you talking about? The majority of Western cosplayers are not like that.

You're an idot that needs to actually look at real cosplayer pics and not 4chan.

Yes and i saw them and there not good.

Now now people, everyone is allowed to have their own oppinion. There's no need to force each other into seeing their own point of view. ¬_¬

I for one see cosplay as basicly another genre of fancy dress (which it is). It's all good fun in the right situations. People can dress up if they want to. I've done dressed up before and I'm sure most have you have in the past too.

Who cares!! People can stereotype if they want. I don't care coz I know who I am and what I like. ¬_¬

EDIT: Jesus... Actually carry on if you like.

EDIT: McIcy makes a better argument.

Dude cosplaying is about expressing your love for a character, its about dressing up as them in an omage, its about putting your effort into creating an outfit, yes some buy the outfits too I myself buy them in parts and then put them together mainly because I have zero sewing skill.

If you are calling it crap then call it crap but try not to slag us cosplayers off so much, you hate it when people call anime 'cartoons' or 'kids' tv right well now your acting like one of them.

I try to pic cosplays that suit my body type hense the Bass outfit XnickX mentioned but sometimes, infact most of the time, no one will match my body type I don't consider myself fat but I am big and don't measure up to the 6ft height that seems to work well, but when I dress up as a new character i feel like that character its like gaining there spirit, and I know this is a concept lost on non-cosplayers but I have tried to explain it as best as possible.

Oh and as for the 10st overweight black guy yes he made a bad choice, maybe he should have dressed up as Bucca from Airgear instead but hey he was having a good time and thats all that matters.

I hope I don't get any negative feedback on what I have written as I have made it as honest as possible. If people don't like or can't understand cosplaying thats fine but beratting us and insulting us is just hurtful and a little immature so can we please all just agree to disagree and try to get along.

I know quite a few people who cosplay, some put lots of effort in and get good results, some... just get the first part down :p . But they've all been fun guys and girls to hang out with, so I'm not sure exactly where all the negativity is coming from...
Also, it seems fair enough for cosplay to be shown on Anime Central, it's part of the uk anime community after all.
That said, I'd never do cosplay myself... not a fan of dressing up at the best of times, and doing something that would draw attention like that would be no fun at all. Introversion ftw >.>

 Brill costume 'ice climber', ill be the first one to guess that you Lloyd Irving from Tos.

Aaaa that game was brillient, cell-shading is the way for anime games, not all (for the FF fans), but works well.

Anyhow, YEAAA!! for voddas and Icy, true understanders of this great art

Look, Guys and Gals. Don't be insulting Cosplayers, and focus on whats the real problem.

If you paid attention to what I said back in the first page, JAPAN HAVE A BETTER DIETARY THAN US.

Lets face it, BRITAIN AND AMERICA ARE FULL OF OBESE PIGS WHO EATS CHICKEN & CHIPS/FISH & CHIPS/SOME OTHER CRAP.

Now, This is the main problem of western cosplayers, end of discussion. Bye.

This sounds very much like content for a broader show rather than the sum total of the content as some seem to be thinking. I personally do not see an issue with Anime Central portraying this on the screen and can only see it as a positive thing. I also cannot agree with the many disparaging comments about UK cosplayers; many are only willing to see/remember the extremes but there are many good cosplayers in the UK. Finally don't knock until it you have seen what they have actually produced. It could very easily be much better than you expect (but with this amount of pessimism it would be fairly hard not to be :p)

QFT.

This is me:

And this Photobucket account contains a good few pictures:

There are some really great cosplayers in this country. I've met some and become friends with a few. What exactly is wrong with showcasing this on TV?

LLOYD! (Nice cosplay! I'm slightly off topic but okay!)

That's just ******** and completely irrelivent.

BTW; thanks for praise about my Lloyd costume. The boots were a PAIN and actually fell apart on the day. I hate those boots now.

Cosplay is all good and well when it's at conventions or on the internet, but shoving it in our faces on what's otherwise a respectable channel is not right. Cosplay, even on that rare occasion when somone from the UK pulls it off, is still the epitome of absolute geekdom. People will be turned off of anime if they see cosplayers on TV, of that I'm sure.

Why not spend this money on interviewing some of the people from Sweatdrop studios, or attending a con or on an anime news program instead?

Not really.

Ice Climber, whether you like it or not cosplaying is a niche within a niche. Sure it's fun for the people actually cosplaying but to other people, even a lot of people who watch anime, it is seen as a very 'nerdy' thing to do. It's not exactly a respected element of the fanbase (as demonstrated in this topic).

Like others have said if they want to expand their scope then that's great, I'm all for it. For example Nargis Ahmad(Manga Girls) managed to get an exclusive interview with Johnny Yong Bosch for this site, I can't see why they couldn't manage to do they same thing. It would be a lot more watchable.

I have to say reading all these posts I kinda feel a bit persecuted, this post was started to let cosplayes know about a tv show aimed at them and turned into a place to have insults thrown at us and our hobby (comments like we treat it like Halloween, no halloween is tacky.... 95% of us suck at it, maybe but we smile when we do it cause we love it). Yes you have seen the bad outfits, lets face it tv shows in this country are more likely to show that as its 'funny' and makes people feel at ease because taking the piss is far easier than giving something a chance. And as for Youtube, come on that was made to bully a place we can all go to laugh at annonymous people.

Look can we kinda move away from the negative sides of it, cause it really gets on my nerves when people who haven;t tried and won't give it a try pass judgement, don't you all hate it when people mock you for watching cartoon porn... sorry anime and ready dirty comics... sorry manga.

For record everyone - they did get an interview with Johnny Yong Bosch and the Funi VA's and the artist behind Afro Samural - they're just getting ready to put them up :).

As has been described to me beyond the press release - the idea is an interesting one as it's for a very interesting style of advert so wait and see with it guys :). Certainly from the description (last I heard anyway) it's not going to necessarily have a negative effect - nor is it some long documentary they are going to force viewers of the channel itself to watch.

Just one thing but is everyone forgetting Cosplayers are anime fans too we watch the channel we watch the anime so how about some else in there for us? whether its 10 minutes or 30 minutes it'd just be nice to see what other cosplayers are up to

Sorry McIcy but I feel that this is a valid topic of discussion and although it make make some people feel uncomfortable talking about it the questions still stand:

- 'Is spotlighting cosplaying on TV a good idea?'

- 'Since this is a TV channel aimed at a wider scope of an audience than pre-existing fans of the shows could the sight of cosplayers put potential viewers off?'

- 'Could this kill chances of the channel/medium being taken seriously?'

- 'Would it even make a difference at all?'

And so on.

Well it can be easily divided into two groups:

For the people interested in wanting to know what cosplay is, watch it.

For people that are not interested in what cosplay is, DON'T watch it.

pretty simple realy

It's not that easy. What about some "new" fan who's discovered the channel, spends some time enjoying Bleach and Escaflowne and then gets scared away by a program about cosplay? They will think that anime is not to be taken seriously when they see ridiculous cosplay on TV, and I can't blame them. What if I want to convince my friends that anime is worthwhile, and is mature entertainment and I point them in the direction of Anime Central and they see cosplay? It's just not going to be good - the truth is, that even I cringe when I see cosplay and I've been an anime fan for about 2 years now.
