Sunrise's science fiction anime <strong>Buddy Complex</strong> is coming to the United Kingdom next year, following an announcement this evening by Anime Limited.
Helmed by Yasuhiro Tanabe<em> </em>(<em>The Girl Who Leapt Through Space</em>) and animated by the studio famous for <em>Mobile Suit Gundam </em>and <em>Cowboy Bebop</em>, <strong>Buddy Complex</strong> tells the story of Aoba Watase, a student whose boring high school life changes forever when a giant robot descends from the sky and attacks his city. In the ensuing chaos, Aoba is saved by a classmate piloting her own mech and after accepting a cryptic offer to join the alliance she's a part of, is thrust into a future where a new world war is threatening the planet. With no other choice, Aoba must learn to pilot a mech and fight as he tries to find a way back to his time.
Andrew Partridge, the President of Anime Limited, made the following statement regarding the acquisition:
“Buddy Complex is a series brought to you from the same studio behind Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne and Outlaw Star, so if you’re a fan of great action, and this case more often than not mecha based action, you’re sure to enjoy this. It’s also the directorial debut of Tasuhiro Tanabe, who has previously directed episodes of various anime including Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, but this is the first series he has directed. As has been documented in the past we love being able to bring new director’s work to the forefront and Buddy Complex is no different. “
The series was originally broadcast in Japan at the beginning of last year. Anime Limited will be releasing the series on both DVD and Blu-ray formats.
