Death Scythe
Originally released in <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6383">June</a> (original movie) and <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6911">November</a> (sequel) last year, the two <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Note">"Death Note"</a> live-action films finally get an English DVD and theatrical release in America - according to a recent <a href="http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=1152">press release</a> from <a href="http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?format_id=6&brand_id=37">Viz Pictures (USA).</a>

The <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4354">"Death Note"</a> manga has already been published by <a href="http://www.viz.com">Viz Media (USA)</a> (finishing its run in July), and the <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6592">"Death Note"</a> anime starts its run in November.  The live-action films are being planned for US DVD release in the Summer of 2008.

The news comes as no surprise - as the two films were <a href="http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9598.html">"smash hits"</a> in Japan, with the second movie staying in the number one position for four weeks straight, and with the popularity of the manga in America and the upcoming highly anticipated anime release - it could come at no better time.

No information has been presented of a possible UK release as of yet, however - with the franchise being as popular as it is, it can be assumed that it is only a matter of time.

The way in which Japanese movies are released in the UK is much different to that of America - such examples being <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=60">Studio Ghibli</a> films being released solely by <a href="http://www.optimumreleasing.com">Optimum Releasing (UK)</a> but some American releases being distributed by different companies.  With the fact that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale">"Battle Royale"</a> has never had an American release, and the premiere release of <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4873">"Brave Story"</a> from <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=2972">Optimum Releasing (UK)</a> has no planned American release at this point in time; it is safe to assume that "Death Note" could be announced from any company and at any time (although with the likes of <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1825">"Naruto"</a> and <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4240">"Bleach"</a> (which are also Viz Media (USA) properties), and a possible release of "Death Note" - from <a href="http://www.manga.co.uk">Manga Entertainment (UK)</a> ) - so stay tuned for more news!

Already own them already, And as Sy said, They have a Low Budget vibe to them.

This got me thinking about the Dub of Death Note. The chances of Light having a 'catchphrase' in teh VIZ dub, Personally I would love for there to be one. XD. *cough*

"BELIEVE IT, KILL IT, BURY IT" *sigh*

I hope for no UK release, all the annoying fan girls "OMG ERU X RAITO PAIRINGS, SO KAWAII. ^_____^" Plus it'll sell out well here, and probably be in the top 10 DVD releases, srsly. Which will annoy me even more. [Yes, I don't like Death Note]

Anything that does well is good for the industry. So with your opinion - all I can understand is that you don't want the industry to do well
That's like saying "I hate Akira, I wish it never got released anywhere and I wish it had failed". Or insert any other major series/movie.

No, I just don't want Death Note to succeed, you know what a GOOD detective series is? 20th Century Boys, now that needs an anime and live action movie, not Death Note, which like 90% of the fans don't even know DN has a story, just ****** Yaoi pairings of the two main characters. =/

Not true on any count. It is not a detective story for one point. Sure it contains some amount of detection but that is not the sole focus of the story. Death Note does have a story but your prejudice doesn't let you see that. To say it is even remotely yaoi is just crazy. Sure at the outset it has two guys who try and outdo each other at every turn but two male characters do not a yaoi make. Simply put, you have an irrational view very similar to many fans whose favourite show gets overlooked and something they consider inferior gets attention.

What was that? ;/

So? It still contains it within the story and often comes back to it. Therefore it's somewhat a detective story, find out who the killer is. [Not Kira.]

Um, what? In my previous posted I just said it did, but the fangirls fail to see it.

^_______________^

That's mild for starters, and that's in the anime itself.

No, I'm just someone who acknowledges the fail that's going down with Death Note.

And I don't want the industry to fail at all, I just want Death Note to fail, it doesn't deserve all the fame it gets.

I love Death Note. It is a detective story. I like detective stories. The yoai factor being increased for the anime version to please the fangirls was a tad tacky.

In its original and animated forms, I have to say Death Note is one of the most outstanding stories to come out of Japan in the last decade. It's a fascinating concept and plot delivered with a real flair and concentration found lacking in many other anime. Reading your (Lupus Inu) posts I get a kind of get the feeling you're irrationally hating on it simply because so many people seem to love it.

Also, there is no "yaoi", it's more like subtle homo-eroticism (or shonen-ai) ala Wolf's Rain. It's certainly not as blunt as say Get Backers. Of course, there is no denying the characters in Death Note are designed for female fans, but then again, what's new? Bishonen certainly aren't. People are over blowing something that's down to individual interpretation.

True, but it would've been better if it would have been taken in a different direction, like being a Seinen manga.

Not really, I hate it on because other people [weaboos] pretty much ruined the series for me, the whole concept and aspect of the series is destroyed. ;/

I never said Yaoi was IN Death Note by Obata or Ohba, but it's fan made, and that soon materialated into many people believing that crap was in the series, thus spawning mindless fangirls, by the thousands, Madhouse responded to this by giving in some fanservice of LxLight, and the rest is history.

Then why is it/was it in a shounen magazine?

Because anyone, boy or girl, wants to see good looking characters doesn't matter if these characters are male or female.

Would you like to look at a cast of revolting looking characters?
(Actually, it'd probably be quite a good idea for a show, but anyway)

Not really. The whole point is to dicuss things. Some people just like to take it a step further and come out with totally irrational and sometimes just downright stupid comments.
