Re: Fall 2012 - New Streaming Show Announcements

From the general news thread:

reborn said:
Meanhile Viz Anime has K. Hopefully Anime On Demand has it for us in the UK.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.co.uk/news/ ... k-tv-anime

Reposting this here too as even though it's not for the UK it might be useful (or just a hint ;)). If Viz US is being more proactive with streaming suddenly, it will mean less of a chance of Crunchyroll completely dominating the way they did this past season, which will make us more reliant on other streaming sites!

Re: Fall 2012 - New Streaming Show Announcements

Anime on Demand Announces New Simulcasts

Anime on Demand announced two of the six autumn season shows it plans to simulcast, the first being the anime television series K as spotted by ANN.

K is a title that Anime UK News has been following since its first announcement. The list of voice actors includes Daisuke Namikawa, Tomokazu Sugita, Kenjiro Tsuda, Daisuke Ono, Mamoru Miyano, Miyuki Sawashiro, Yui Horie, Takahiro Sakurai, Jun Fukuyama.

The show’s director is Shingo Suzuki who also acts as character designer. His work can be seen in Read or Die (OVA), Noein and Mardock Scramble Movies. Makoto Furuta (Samurai 7, Armitage III (OVA) is the chief animation director and Gou Nakanishi is the producer. Nakanishi has worked on the anime Asura Cryin’, Heroic Age, Negima!? and Fafner, is involved and theme songs for the anime will be performed by the group Angela (Asura Cryin’, Jinki: Extend, and Shikabane Hime:Kuro).

The second shoe is Kyoto Animation’s latest project She Has Adolescent Delusions, but I want to Love Her. The anime is based on what comedian Hikaru Ijūin terms “Chū-2 byō” or “middle-school second-grade disease” which covers adolescent thoughts that teenagers have like delusions of grandeur.

Synopsis

Yūta Togashi is a boy who used to suffer from something called “Chū-2 byō”. However he outgrew this phase when he entered high school. His girlfriend Rikka Takanashi still has this problem but things are ticking along nicely between the two of them until, wouldn’t you know it, another cute girl who used to be Togashi’s friend in middle school appears and she is also suffering from the same syndrome. She is Satone Shichimiya and she will cause all sorts of chaos.

This anime is based on Torako’s novel of the same name which received an honourable mention in the novel category at the first Kyoto Animation Award program. Kyoto Animation began publishing the novel with illustrations by studio animator Nozomi Ousaka.

The anime is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara (Air, K-ON!) with series composition orchestrated by Jukki Haneda (Steins;Gate).

Rather interestingly, all six of the titles are going to be streamed free. In a statement the website announced:

You'll see a few aesthetic changes for one - but the most important change is that we want to do something special for not only our subscribers but all UK anime fans. So for this season exclusively all 6 of our new simulcasts will be free.

That's right - you heard me - 100% free with only a pre-roll catch from us, no adverts. It's a one-season exclusive and we'll reveal what's next after that following a bit of old-fashioned talking to you, the fans, to build an even better service here.

As a result for now we've removed subscription requirements for this season too as of today so many subscribers will have received a cancellation notice. We are currently working out a gift scheme for people who have been subscribers over the last season to make up for the lack of content.

Stay tuned for more news.

The guys from the Odd Jobs Agency are back...

Fans of Gintama have had to do without any new comedy from Gintoki and co. ever since March earlier this year, when the anime series – based on the manga by Hideaki Sorachi – ended its run on television. But now…Gintama is BACK and Crunchyroll has got it!

Starting Thursday, October 4th at 3am Pacific Time, new episodes of Gintama will be made available to premium members. Free members will be able to watch one week after the initial broadcast on Crunchyroll. TV Tokyo is referring to the new batch as the show’s “Kintama Arc,” which is a rude joke in Japanese, so expect a wild ride in the days ahead...

We’re sure many of you are already familiar with the unique historical comedy offered in Gintama (heck, you can watch 252 previous episodes now in the CR library), but just in case, here’s the official synopsis:

“The values of the city of Edo suddenly changed when the aliens, called Amanto, invaded. In a world where anything goes, from aliens to motorbikes and even electric trains, a man known as the last samurai clings to his unchanging spirit. His name is Gintoki Sakata, a.k.a. Odd Jobs Gin. He's reckless and irresponsible, but somehow he does what needs to be done in his own subtle way. The lifestyles of Gin and his companions will make you laugh, make you cry, and warm your heart!”

Gintama will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience in the following territories: North America, South America, Africa, Europe (except Andorra, Italy, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Vatican City), and Middle East.

I'm still only up to around episode 130 of the original run...

Crunchyroll to Stream "Shin Sekai Yori" (From the New World) Anime

What’s this? Another Fall 2012 streaming anime announcement from Crunchyroll? Yes! Crunchy has gone and nabbed the highly anticipated series Shin Sekai Yori (known in English as “From the New World”), based on the bestselling science fiction novel of the same name...

Here’s an official synopsis for you:

Based on the novel that won Yusuke Kishi a Nihon SF Taisho Award, this highly acclaimed story released in 2008 is so broad, unique, and imaginative that many said a film version would be impossible. Four years later, TV Asahi teams up with director Masashi Ishihama and A-1 Pictures to bring the animated version to life at last.

Five children living in the future are the protagonists. The story begins when they are 12 years old and starting their lives at an advanced school to learn the ‘cursed power’ of telekinesis. They also learn of humanity's bloody history and set out upon epic adventures that place their very lives on the line. The age of 14 brings them still greater trials and heart-wrenching events, and finally, in the summer of their 26th year, a tragedy like nothing history has ever seen befalls mankind...

The humans who possess the cursed power, the race of creatures just as significant as humans, known as ‘bakenezumi,’ and beasts that have evolved in even more bizarre ways - countless forces and speculations come together in this unpredictable three-part story illustrating the lives of the protagonists at ages 12, 14, and 26. Even more profound themes involving the roots of all life can also be found hidden in the story's depths.

Shin Sekai Yori is set to broadcast every Tuesday starting on October 2, at 12:40 pm Pacific Time for premium members. Free members are able to view one week after initial broadcast on Crunchyroll.

The show will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience in the following territories: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Central & South America.
