Name your favourite OSTs.

Mine would have to be either 5 Centimeters Per Second or the first Stand Alone Complex OST.
5 Centimeters Per Second has beautiful piano compositions which suit the mood of the film perfectly.
And the GitS: SAC OST is just full of cool, jazzy numbers and it rounds of wonderfully aswell.

Hmmmm....Favorite OSTS have to be End Of Evangelion,Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain, the latter two for their awesome jazz tracks and the former because it has some of the best orchestral music that I've ever heard. On a side note it was this track that compelled me to buy the EOE OST.<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ejSTUVFHzlc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ejSTUVFHzlc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
^__^.

Most things by Susumu Hirasawa, Yoko Kanno and Tsuneo Imahori. Wada Kaoru is decent too.

Not associated with the Berserk anime but it's win regardless.

Easily the Macross Frontier OST's, with the remix being my fav

The amount of times i listened to that after you showed me it, hah. Still good song though.

Erm, Personally, my favourite is still the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, and i expect it will be for years to come, and a lot of Kanno's other works as well are brilliant, Like Frontier, but i still only have on soundtrack from that and still need to finish the series. Erm, i like Seirei No Moribitos soundtrack, mainly because of how well it works the series as a whole, and it does have some replay value outwith the series itself as well. These are the ones that generally come to mind straight off at the moment anyways.

Out of all the anime I've watched, the only time I've felt excitement when an OST (or 3) appeared on the net was in the case of Death Note. My ears fell in love with the DN soundtrack quickly and one of the main reasons I rated the anime 10/10 was the soundtrack. The anime ended...at the start of 2008? I can't remember, but I still listen to a track or two from the soundtracks (usually the 3rd, which includes Near's theme) even now. By some distance, DN has the best music I've heard.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Xp2OlxkJyug&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Xp2OlxkJyug&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The Berserk soundtrack is also great, but it only has something like 9 pieces of music on it. It had some amazing, and very fitting, tracks on it but the soundtrack is simply too small for me to rate highly. If there's ever another Berserk anime I'd 100% want the same composer because he's perfect for Berserk.

There is only one soundtrack I recognized straight away at being awesomeand that is..

Appleseed:Ex Machina - This soundtrack was the first that I liked. It's got a really awesome techno/electro soundtrack that fits the anime really well, especially in some of the awesome action scenes. Although it's electro, it's quite 'quiet' sounding, as in the music is really subtle; I listen to it when I read manga quite alot because it doesn't require me to listen to any lyrics- It just draws you in and makes you feel really relaxed. I recommend this to anyone to listen to. It's a really great soundtrack for any music fan. The soundtrack also has some orchestra stuff on like so (this one slowly merges into quite a techno styled song):

This is one of my favorites:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Grr_A20ei64&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Grr_A20ei64&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Mine would have to be the Tsukihime OST although its hardly uplifting, i find it nice to listen to while working (i'm strange like that). Its makes good use of the orchestra, still need to get the second volume of the OST like

Because i'm an electronic genre nazi i'm going to point and shout at you (in the nicest way possible); IT'S NOT TECHNO!

 or electro for that matter.
But it seems to be very good! The first track sounds like ambient working into a sort of orchestrated tribal style. Because of my love of all music with an orchestra style backing, I loved it.
Second track was most definately breakbeat. Very good!

I've been meaning to check out Appleseed for a while. This has certainly given me a push :)

Techno and electro are specific styles of electronic music, not just an umbrella term

probaly gonna get a lot of raised eyebrows or weird looks for this one but...my favourite anime OST is the soundtrack to the Initial D series, racing and eurobeat music is a match made in heaven :p

As for games, i would say it's a tie between the composers:

Yasunori Mitsuda - Shadow Hearts series
Shoji Meguro - SMT series
Michiko Naruke - Wild Arms series

I neglected to mention the .hack//SIGN soundtrack. It contains Yuki Kajura's best work. Her music is unique; you can tell it was done by her when you listen to it, and her music often raises the ratings of the anime she's worked on slightly. For example, I'm unsure if I would've given .hack//SIGN 8/10 instead of 7/10 if not for the soundtrack.

.hack//SIGN was slow and rather uneventful, so having the sort of soundtrack that carries a series and keeps even the dull scenes from sending the viewer to sleep did a lot of good for it. It's too bad she hasn't worked on any anime that are worthy of 10/10 without her work -- that would be awesome.

Ignoring the awful .hack//roots music, yes. And talking of .hack soundtracks, the .hack//G.U. games, which were never released in Europe, contain my favourite video game music. Truly amazing stuff.

Here are a few tracks:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WuVLa-ki7rY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WuVLa-ki7rY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Gah! I forgot my favorite soundtrack.. BECK! I listen to this album so much that I must do it subconciously! As it's a music anime, most of the music is what the band makes. The scenes when they actually play in the anime make it better, but still the music is great to listen to it by itself. The music is quite like rage against the machine, except with engrish I guess :p

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6-7HmOVzv2Q&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6-7HmOVzv2Q&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Here's a softer song on acoustic:

Enjoy! :p

I've always been put off watching Beck because I thought the music might be crap. But those were pretty good.
Tempted to order the Beck amp box starter set thing.

Those .hack tunes are excellent. I also like the Death Note track on the previous page; is that from the anime? The video says it's the movie OST.

My favourite soundtrack is Mushishi's. The music is atmospheric, melancholy, and understated, which suits the show perfectly.
