Like previous anime anthologies, The Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knights, Halo Legends taps a variety of notable Japanese creators and animation studios to produce short films for a compiled home-video release. Directors Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) will be working on the project, as will familiar studios like Production I.G. (Blood: The Last Vampire), Studio4˚C (Tekkonkinkreet), Toei Animation (Dragon Ball), Casio Entertainment (visual effects work on Big Man Japan), and Bones (Cowboy Bebop: The Movie).

Was waiting for someone to make the tread.
As a huge fan of both I'm super happy and excited.
There's so much to the Universe that people don't see, this'll hopefully give them an in-road (to things like the novels and the graphic novel).

Mamoru Iishi is directing the I.G. iirc and apparently the TOEI one is a non-canon pisstake :D

The f***?!!! You could of had any other long-featured series, like FMA or Eureka 7... AND YOU WENT WITH BEBOP: THE MOVIE?!
(BTW I'm not saying the movie sucks. I have it myself. I'm just saying it's a poor choice of giving reference.)

Well, I'm not a huge fan of the games, so it may be interesting as an anime... but I've no real hype about it.

So we could actually get this before the finish the live action one then. I am surprised the that nobody had already got a show out there based off the Starship Troopers style of animation.

LOL to the Toei Animation one. I badly want to see that one though.

Master Chief will turn Super Saiyan and blast the enemys with a kamehameha!

Not too keen on Halo myself.
Then again, Oshii's involvement should hopefully prevent this from becoming an animated action game, so some prospects exist.

Glad to see that they are going to animate the history of the halo universe, its got a lot going for it. I know a lot of people find Halo rather bad and such, but the books themselves add a lot more to it i find, and bring a lot more life to the universe as well, and of course, plot holes are filled in.
I wonder if this is down to the fact that they want to show the story up to Where Fall of Reach occured? Since we do have Halo: Reach coming out next year.

EDIT: though taking a look at the video teaser for it..i didn't recognise any, if any of the scenes shown, so i wonder if it covers other parts not mentioned in the books...?

Having spoken (messaging) to the Creative Lead at 343, he's said that they're
-telling the story of the spartans, from creation to ...what's left
-John is the protagonist of at least one
-One is about the Elites, how they joined the Covenant, how they function as a society (big part of the newest book, Cole Protocol) their armour (called Duel iirc)
-TOEI one is a non-canon humour one (Spartan 1337)

There's more but that's all that leaps to mind.

Hasn't all of this been done to death anyway? I'm quietly interested, but Halo's continuing popularity still mostly perplexes me.

Yeah, that's a shame, I was hoping for some more original strands to be picked up.

Although the Elite/Prophet war has really been covered in detail yet, so that could be good.

It's well animated, well known, has a great soundtrack and tells one of the best Bebop stories (IMO) - I don't see why it shouldn't qualify as an example of Bones' past achievements. It was also one of the earliest works for the studio I seem to recall.

Anyhow, didn't see this Halo thing coming at all. Seems these kind of western comissioned, multi-studio collaborations are becoming increasingly popular. Though I hope this is more 'Animatrix' than 'Gotham Knight' in terms of quality. The Halo universe isn't a bad setting to work with anyhow: it's certainly one of the more detailed and interesting Sci-Fi settings within recent video games. Treated right it could be used to great affect in anime.

EDIT: Thus far, from the trailer it looks like the Bones and Production I.G. segments will be coolest, though I'm less sold on the all CGI by Casio
