Hayao Miyazaki's next film will be Gake no ue no Ponyo or "Ponyo on a Cliff". The story is about a 5-year old boy named Sousuke, and the goldfish princess Ponyo, who desires to become human. Production began Six months ago, and Miyazaki had previously gone on record saying that he aims to eclipse even the iconic status of neighbourly 80s anime troll Totoro, presumably with the Ponyo character. My initial reaction is that he's barking mad, but who knows 
He may even work in an amusing song about dwelling in the water sung by a Jamaican crab.
Simultaneously, Ghibli are working on a minor, straight to DVD (and Beta-Rax) release featuring 3D-rendered artwork by Fantasy painter Ioue Naohisa. Sounds like it will be a kind of fly-by movie with musical accompaniment, part of the "Ghibli ga Ippai" (Full of Ghibli) Collection of minor and/or specialist works done by the animator.
