The "All Purpose" JManga Thread

MrLaserSharkKH

Stand User
Basically a thread for everything to do with JManga.com

I thought It would be useful having everything under one thread, what with all the interesting stuff happening recently and even more so within the next few months/year.

Anything from discussion, codes, new licences, new releases, promotions etc. goes here and stuff.

My first contribution, getting in those new Releases that were missing.

I was wondering if you could expand on this at all? I'm still not sure what the site's remit is outside of "we sell a few digital manga".

I see that they have a new site launching which will be more like an online equivalent of weekly magazines, which is cool.

The ones that you have listed as Japanese/English language, does that mean I can read them in Japanese on JManga's site?!

I can switch between English and Japanese at the touch of a button while reading SoreMachi, so I'm assuming the above titles are the same. It's a cool feature if not particularly useful to me at this point.

My only reservation about JManga, aside from the obvious digital-being-inferior-to-an-actual-printed-book thing, is that you don't get to download anything you buy. So if the site ever goes tits-up, any manga you've bought is going bye-bye along with it.

PS: Joshi Kousei (High School Girls) is a hilarious seinen comedy that comes highly recommended by your friendly neighbourhood lunatic. If you've ever wanted to know what goes on in a Japanese all-girls high school, and of course you have, this manga (written by a woman who attended an all-girls high school) is for you.

My sentiments exactly. I'd be more than happy to own manga in a digital format if it's not viable to release a physical copy, as long as I can, y'know, actually take ownership of what I've bought in some capacity.

Awesome! Now I am properly motivated to support them, this is something so sensible that I didn't actually think anyone would offer it.

Mmm, that does kind of suck in this instance. Even when/if they get bought out by a bigger/Japanese company who will carry on the service in some form, it could be awkward.

I watched the anime, and thought it was fine. Does the manga come recommended above that, if indeed you saw the TV series?

The HSG anime is but a pale shadow of the manga. It changes things around; adds unnecessary drama and excessive, forced fanservice; and just generally does not capture the spirit of its source material at all. So yeah, I'd say the manga is worth checking out regardless of what you thought of the anime.

If a title is listed on Jmanga, but marked as "not available for retail", should I be reading this as "it's possible we might get this at some point" or is it more like Crunchyroll, who seem to list a great number of things they have no intention of acquiring?

To be honest, until JManga move to mobile devices (October isn't it?) and become download to own, I won't be using them. Which is a shame, as they have a few titles I would like to own.

Nice one, I certainly wouldn't have bothered if it had just been "on par" as the anime was watchable but nothing to write home about.

iOS app? Excellent news. I'll still only be using them for fringe series, so whilst this means I'm not as bothered about download-to-own (if I really want a series that badly, I will buy the print version), it also means that I am more prepared to read them in less "comfortable" situations the like of which might benefit from iPhone access.

RECORD looks as though it's some sort of musical-influenced Shounen Horror series. The only thing I could find was it was released in 2011 and runs for just the one volume, definitely a very obscure one.

EDIT: Just going off the first few pages The main character (on the cover) looks to be called Punk she seems to end up in the room of this girl called Pop who seems to have lost a right hand???, they go off to find it and things happen.

The contents points to Other Chapters (or files) and characters (there's a blues, a rock, a techno, a country and a couple of others too)

I've missed this thread completely.... Just reported on the new J-Manga titles and I must confess I'm really excited to see School Rumble coming back. I've been so annoyed that they never got to release the ending of it....
