Ginrei OVA is a lighthearted spinoff that's more fanservice than anything. It's entirely unnecessary.

Wish they'd made another couple of episodes of GR instead as while the series does end conclusively, it also leaves things tantalisingly open for more.

Along with Golden Boy mentioned the other day the Dr. Slump movie collection is also back in-stock on the Crunchyroll Store.

Was going to wait until payday but bit the bullet and ordered them now as they're OOP and was annoyed that I didn't get them earlier when they went out-of-stock prior.

Was hoping that would mean Monkey Punch's Cinderella Boy would come back in-stock as well as that was another title that went OOP at the same time as the other two but it hasn't popped up unfortunately.

Thanks for the heads up on Saturday @Lucky_Deity looks like I picked it up in time.

No worries!

I'm pretty sure Discotek said at some point that a blu-ray wouldn't be possible for Golden Boy so this was likely the last chance for people (including myself) to get this for the foreseeable future (without paying ridiculous prices on ebay).

Dr. Slump I have no idea if it'll come back on blu-ray or SD-BD in the future and considering it's still fairly niche (despite being a Toriyama work), I can see it not happening unfortunately though interest may have risen due to Toriyama's unfortunate passing recently.

Now if Cinderella Boy could surprisingly come back in-stock for a bit I'd be happy (not to keep going on about it but annoyed I didn't get it earlier), I can't seem to find it on ebay at all (the Discotek release anyway).

Discotek's July 2024 line-up was revealed. They are going for a bi-monthly approach from here on I believe and they also mentioned their next expected Discotek Day event isn't until Otakon, but at least this timeframe is good for us to catch up on those classics.

Also worth noting they teased and revealed the Tokusatsu series Mobile Cop Jiban over the weekend. They did mention a while back that they were cooking some Toku Time titles so there's probably more to come.

Sorted out my next Discotek Media haul, which hopefully will arrive in time for this month's haul!

I've gone for 12 titles once again, was hoping to add more but the shows always up the costs. Pretty happy with the selection as there was more freedom to choose given almost everything was available. Obviously it's a challenge to pick what's best especially given the randomness of the out of print notices.

My haul has a title from 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, four from 2022, two from 2023 and one from 2024. Not going to completely give away what they all are but I will highlight that two of them are Lupin the Third: Mystery of Mamo and Lupin the Third: Return of Pycal which I have watched from way back in 2012 so it's going to be interesting to revisit them when they arrive.

Reborn! was considered but I held off because they're planning the Fan Disc release which I felt was extending the lifespan of the release a bit (though I will pick it up sooner than later to avoid the hassle, but they're not cheap sets for context).

Does any of the discotek stuff ever get another run or am I just dreaming?
Only the ones that run out of stock within say the first 12-36 months or so. If it doesn't run out then it's likely to not receive a reprint due to poor sales.

Some of the older releases have been reprinted with the curved slipcases which does suggest it did well enough to stay around a bit longer, but sometimes license expirations can occur to which stock would get eaten up sooner than later.

If you look on the first post, basically any title that's been released up to about early 2021 I would recommend you go ahead and grab if you have access to a Region Free Blu-ray player (or Panasonic player) at this point.

Regarding City Hunter, I'm still convinced that Anime Limited will eventually license the entire franchise given their relationship with Sunrise, the fact that Discotek doesn't have UK rights (only US & Canada and Australia & New Zealand) and Anime Limited picking up the latest City Hunter film Angel Dust for UK & US.

Grrr, I was trying to buy City Hunter season 2 for months a while back, but it was constantly out of stock on Amazon. At least I've got season 1 and the movies.

Does City Hunter remain purely episodic with no ongoing continuity throughout? I'm just wondering if it's worth skipping ahead to season 3 and 91 or if there are major events in season 2 that would make the later ones difficult to follow.

I was planning to do a City Hunter and Cats Eye haul later this and the reason why I haven't done it yet is because how unnecessarily hard to find and expensive City Hunter 2 is.
I never want to spend £60+ of one set out of two.
I thought there will be a complete Season 2 set for money and storage convenience reasons on my end.

Not to mention one of the parts keeps going out of stock without warning

Thankfully I was only mildly interested in the series so City Hunter Season 1 and the Movies as well Cats Eye stuff will be just enough for me.

Plus I often heard mixed opinions on City Hunter 2 anyway from my peer so I saved a bit of cash of spending a crap ton of money on 2 sets that I may not even end up liking.

Now if that happened to You're Under Arrest for example, then I would be upset, although I would had brought all.the SD-BDs on release

very similar thoughts to me
I have City Hunter S1 but have never seen a decent price for S2, annoying it is split into two parts and didn't want to end up with just one part. have both Cat's Eye sets tho, much prefer it as a series too!
and yes will someone pleeeeease release You're Under Arrest on blu ray

Yeah it was an assumption for many but Discotek confirmed on their reddit that Season 1's complete set impacted the Season 2 Parts 1 & 2 sales so plans cancelled. Though I recall they revealed it pretty early so I think it was bad planning on Discotek's part because they should have done it after Season 2 Parts 1 & 2 were out of the way.

Discotek titles I pretty much buy on pre-order, so I have the separate Parts 1 & 2 for both Seasons 1 and 2, and didn't bother double dipping on the Complete Season 1. I actually prefer collecting the separate Parts 1 & 2 of any anime that eventually gets a Complete Collection set, mainly because more surface area on the slips and cases and disks for artwork. I have almost no complete collection re-releases of any anime in my collection, because if it was a series I liked I would have already bought the separate Parts 1 & 2 long before, so then I'm not really interested in double-dipping just for a combined set. So, I have every City Hunter Discotek release except for the Season 1 Complete Collection set.

I've got all of the releases for the Galaxy Express series and movies and Cat's Eye as well - I blind-bought all of them because I could tell I was going to really like them.
