Berserk 1997 13-25
welp. that went places I wasn't expecting! jaw was on the floor by the end, and looking it up the manga somehow carried on from that point? don't know if I want to find out how tho, kind of a perfect ending point. was a solid 8 until those last few episodes which pushed it to a 9/10. very much deserving of its classic status.

In/Spectre S1
I love these kind of overly talkie shows, but even I felt this one was pushing it. main problem was the pacing towards the end, there was a good story in there but they stretched it out over faaaaaar too many episodes. 6/10

The Jungle Book 2 (2003 Disney animated) - Actually far better than I would have expected, songs a bit naff, especially compared to the excellent music from the first 1967 Disney animated Jungle Book, but lush animation and decent storyline, and they did a remarkably good job portraying Mowgli's conflicting desire to be both free in the jungle and part of the human village. I could have done without them recounting the storyline of the first film using shadow puppetry at the beginning, but get thru that first couple of minutes and you'll be richly rewarded. Also really enjoyed seeing Shanti (the girl from the end of the first movie) fleshed out as a character, and it was nice to have a really little kid (Ranjan) as a major character in a Disney animated film as typically they only have relatively older kids or teens. I think there's a little nod to Kipling's The Cat Who Walked by Himself near the end too! (I thoroughly recommend the Soviet animation of that called The Cat Who Walked by Herself, btw) :)

Goshogun TV (DROPPED, English subbed) - I didn't hate this, but considering it's meant to be a parody the shenanigans of the heroes are just your typical mecha pilot team stuff from that era, I'm not generally much of a villain stan but the ones in this series are more entertaining than the heroes (particularly the effeminate blonde guy who seems to be Not So Bad After All, perhaps?). I get that the humor is meant to be subtle but there's a fine line between subtle and barely there at all, I much preferred the GoShogun: The Time Etranger film which is darker than the series and has beautiful visuals and direction, and which I also appreciated for its focus on Remy, the main female character from the series, over the more sausage-fest-y tone of the TV show. I could conceivably see myself watching more of this at some point, give it another chance and all that, but there are so many other anime I could watch that I'd probably get greater enjoyment out of 😅

Cautious Hero episodes 4-12: Not my cup of tea. By the time of the big reveal in the penultimate episode I had lost interest in the characters and just wanted it to end. Too much shouting and hitting women for my liking. Oh well, on to the next one in my pile.

Shirobako episodes 1-9: While it is enjoyable, I do find most anime about the anime industry to be rather self-indulgent. Monthly Girls Nozaki Kun got away with it thanks to the characters and the fact that drawing the manga was only part of the story. Shall continue with this tomorrow, but I feel an urge to rewatch some of The Familiar of Zero.

All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku (OAV) - Episodes 1 - 6 [Final]

This was very entertaining and frequently made me laugh out loud.

I keep threatening to revisit Nuku Nuku, I have fond memories of the old UK dubbed version.

Urusei Yatsura (2022) ep5-6

Delicious in Dungeon ep6

Might have been a bit hard on this initially; much as I keep expecting it to grow stale, I’ve been watching it regularly every week.

Metallic Rouge ep5

Haven’t found this one all that obscure so far, but this time, I got nothing. The art design for the carnival was interesting though, bit of a Moebius vibe going on.

Frieren ep3-12

Yes, this goes down rather too easily. It’s starting to feel a bit closer to the standard ‘we need to go to the place and do the thing’ fantasy adventure now, but I’m already thoroughly invested.

How Not To Summon A Demon Lord season 1: entertaining stuff. Sort of a combination of Beast Tamer and The Testament of Sister New Devil, I suppose, with the "hero" gradually enslaving more and more women to his side. Sometimes I think the BBFC needs to add a new classification of "excessive boob obsessed scenes".

7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy! Episode 6

Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside Season 2 Episode 6

Fluffy Paradise Episode 7

How a Realistic Hero etc etc season 2: Still fairly entertaining. Nothing spectacular, but lots of thoughtful stuff about building a civilisation. I did find the "marriage" class to be a bit sneaky and underhand. but the finale was surprising. Pity we never got close to the demon army.
